The Companionship of a Fool Once, a man was journeying toward a mountain when a man called out to him, “O My dear, where are you headed? Is there something to fear? I sense an enemy behind you!”
The messenger replied, “I am fleeing from the company of a fool. Please do not hinder my escape.”
The man was perplexed and asked, “But are you not the one blessed with the power to heal the blind and the deaf? You are the one who can call the dead back to life, are you not?”
“Yes,” the messenger confirmed.
“And are you not the one who shapes birds from clay, breathing life into them so they fly?” the man continued, still amazed.
“Indeed, I am,” the messenger responded.
The man, astonished by the messenger’s abilities, wondered aloud, “If you possess such blessings, why then are you afraid?”
The messenger explained, “By the will of the Almighty, I have invoked His great name upon the blind and the deaf, and they were healed. I have called upon it for the dead, and they have risen. Yet, when I call upon it for the fool, it bears no fruit.”
Confused, the man asked, “How can this be? If your words have the power to heal and revive, why do they not affect foolishness? After all, ignorance is a kind of disease.”
The messenger replied solemnly, “The affliction of foolishness is a reflection of divine wrath. It is a state that does not yield to wisdom or healing.”
Life Lesson:
This story teaches us that solitude is preferable to the company of a fool. True wisdom lies in recognizing the value of our companions and understanding that some states of mind cannot be easily changed.
