In a grand kingdom, a Sage wandered through the bustling capital, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. While strolling along the cobbled streets, he spotted a coin lying on the ground. Although he led a modest life and had no use for the coin, he decided to give it to someone who might need it.
Throughout the day, he searched the streets, but everyone he encountered seemed content with their lives. As night fell, the Sage retired to a resting place, still carrying the coin.
The following morning, he woke to the sounds of clashing armor and marching soldiers. The King was preparing to lead his army into battle to expand his territory. Spotting the Sage, the King approached, eager for blessings for his endeavor.
“Oh Wise Sage,” the King said, “I seek your blessings for victory in my war!”
The Sage, after a moment of contemplation, handed the King the coin. The King was taken aback. “What use do I have for a mere coin?” he asked, puzzled and slightly irritated.
The Sage replied, “O King, I discovered this coin while walking through your city. I intended to donate it to someone in need, but as I observed your people, they appeared happy and satisfied. However, you, the ruler of this prosperous land, still wish to conquer more. I believe you are the one who needs this coin.”
The King, struck by the Sage’s words, reflected on his insatiable desire for expansion. He realized that true wealth lies in contentment rather than conquest, and he decided to abandon his plans for war.
Moral:
True happiness comes from appreciating what you already have. While it’s natural to aspire for more, we should not overlook the value of our current blessings. Comparing ourselves to others can lead to dissatisfaction; instead, we should find joy in our lives as they are.
