Simulated Diamond

In the bustling town of Zafirah, there lived a skilled and honest diamond cutter named Ibrahim. His talent was widely known, yet he worked under the employ of a wealthy jeweler named Ezra, a man who thrived on the profits of Ibrahim’s craftsmanship but never compensated him fairly. Though Ibrahim was the heart of Ezra’s success, his own life was modest, and he struggled to make ends meet.

Time passed, and Ibrahim’s daughter, Amina, came of age. With her marriage approaching, the cost of her wedding weighed heavily on Ibrahim. He had no savings, no wealth to offer his daughter the celebration she deserved. In desperation, he approached Ezra one evening.

“Master Ezra,” Ibrahim said, his voice thick with humility, “I have served you faithfully for many years. My daughter is to be wed, and I find myself in need of a loan to cover her marriage expenses.”

Ezra, seated behind his grand desk adorned with gold and jewels, feigned sympathy. “Ibrahim, I wish I could help, but I have no money to spare at the moment,” he replied, though his wealth was more than abundant.

Disheartened, Ibrahim returned home with a heavy heart. His wife, noticing his distress, greeted him with bitterness. “What good is your honesty and skill if it cannot provide for your family?” she lamented. That night, Ibrahim lay awake, tormented by his helplessness.

The next morning, Ibrahim didn’t show up for work. Later in the day, Ezra, sensing something was wrong, sent for him. When Ibrahim arrived at the jeweler’s shop, he carried a small, tightly wrapped bundle in his hands. Setting it down in front of Ezra, he unfolded the cloth to reveal a magnificent diamond, glistening under the sunlight.

“Master Ezra,” Ibrahim began, “this Simulated Diamond has been in my family for generations. Though it is against tradition to sell it, I offer it to you as collateral. Lend me the money I need, and when I repay you, I will retrieve my family’s gem.”

Ezra’s eyes gleamed with greed as he examined the diamond, its flawless cuts and dazzling shine reflecting his own fortune. “Very well,” he agreed. “You shall have your loan.”

With the money, Ibrahim was able to marry off his daughter in a modest yet dignified ceremony. Though it pained him to part with the family heirloom, he knew it was necessary for Amina’s future. After the wedding, Ibrahim worked tirelessly, day and night, gradually repaying his debt to Ezra.

Finally, the day came when Ibrahim made his last payment. “Master Ezra,” he said with a sense of relief, “I have returned all that I owed. Now, I ask for my family’s diamond back.”

Ezra, smug and confident, fetched the diamond and handed it to Ibrahim. The diamond cutter took it in his hands, studied it for a moment, and then, in a move that shocked Ezra, dropped the gem into a bowl of water. Instantly, the diamond dissolved, revealing itself as a mere trick of art—a masterfully crafted glass replica.

Ezra’s face paled with disbelief. “What is this?” he stammered.

Ibrahim smiled softly and said, “It was a false gem, Master Ezra. An Egyptian nugget, nothing more. A Simulated Diamond, crafted with such precision that even a seasoned jeweler like you was deceived. I had no real diamond to offer, but I trusted my skill to protect me.”

Ezra stood speechless, shame creeping into his expression.

Ibrahim continued, “I did not wish to deceive you, but you left me no choice. Had you shown mercy when I humbly requested your help, I would never have resorted to this. I am an honest man, so I repaid my debt, but your greed blinded you to the truth.”

With that, Ibrahim took his leave, his pride intact. Ezra, left alone with his shame, could do nothing but watch as his most valuable craftsman walked away forever.

Life Lesson

True wealth lies in integrity and kindness, not in the jewels one possesses. Helping those in need enriches the soul, while greed only leads to loss.
