In a quiet town, there lived a wise man who was blind. Though he couldn’t see the world around him, he would always carry a bright lantern whenever he walked through the town at night.
One evening, as he made his way home after visiting a friend, a group of travelers passed by and noticed the blind man with his lantern. Amused, they began to laugh and whisper among themselves. Finally, one of them called out, “Old man! You’re blind and can’t see the light—why bother carrying that lantern?”
The blind man paused, turning toward the travelers with a calm smile. “I carry this lantern not for myself, but for people like you,” he explained gently. “Without this light, you might not see me coming and could accidentally bump into me. This lantern is to help you see.”
Hearing his words, the travelers were embarrassed by their thoughtlessness. They apologized to the blind man, realizing their mistake.
Moral:
Before judging others, we should understand their actions. Compassion and understanding go a long way in seeing the world through someone else’s eyes.
