A Pleasant and Precious Pearl It was a rainy day when Sultan Mehmood Ghaznavi entered his grand court. His nobles and ministers were seated in their places, waiting for his word. In the Sultan’s hand was a rare and beautiful pearl, glowing with an ethereal light.Lifting the pearl for all to see, the Sultan asked, “Can anyone tell me how much this gem is truly worth?
The chief minister stepped forward, examining the pearl closely. “Your Majesty, this is a truly priceless gem. In my humble opinion, its worth could equal one mana of gold,” he said.
The Sultan then surprised everyone with an unexpected command. “Break the pearl.”
The minister stared in shock. “How could I break something so valuable?” he questioned. “It is too precious to destroy, Your Majesty.”
The Sultan, understanding his hesitation, moved on and handed the pearl to the deputy minister. “What is your assessment of its value?” he asked.
The deputy minister, taken aback by its brilliance, said, “This pearl shines brighter than the sun, Your Majesty. Breaking it would be an unimaginable loss.”
Once again, the Sultan’s request to break the pearl was met with refusal. The Sultan commended their loyalty, but no one dared to destroy the priceless gem. Despite their good intentions, none of the nobles could bring themselves to obey the order.
Finally, the Sultan turned to Ayaz, his trusted servanHe handed the pearl to Ayaz and inquired, “What do you think this pearl is worth?”
Without a moment’s hesitation, Ayaz replied, “Its value is beyond my estimation, but your command, my Sultan, is far more important.” Without delay, Ayaz shattered the pearl into pieces.
The entire court fell into a stunned silence. The ministers and nobles were shocked by Ayaz’s action, unable to understand how he could break something so rare and precious. Yet, Ayaz remained calm, knowing he had followed the Sultan’s true desire.
The Sultan, smiling at Ayaz’s loyalty, turned to the court and said, “What is more valuable to you: this pearl or my decree?”
Realizing their error, the ministers and nobles bowed their heads in shame. They were so captivated by the pearl’s radiance that the significance of the Sultan’s order slipped from their minds.
Ayaz, filled with humility, addressed the court.”Friends, regardless of the pearl’s beauty, its value pales in comparison to the importance of our Sultan’s command.” What matters most is our loyalty to him, not the brilliance of a mere stone.”
The Sultan, moved by Ayaz’s words and wisdom, forgave the nobles and ministers for their disobedience. Through this lesson, they understood that true value lies not in material possessions but in the deeper loyalty and devotion they held to their ruler.
Life Lesson
Ayaz demonstrated that material wealth, no matter how precious, is insignificant when compared to the importance of loyalty and obedience. While others were dazzled by the pearl’s beauty, Ayaz remained true to the Sultan’s command, showing that true wisdom lies in understanding what truly matters.
