How Much I Love You

In a meadow filled with blooming flowers and tall trees, there lived two hares—Little Hare and Big Hare. Little Hare was curious, always asking questions about the world. But one question had been lingering in his heart for a while: “How do you show love?”

One sunny afternoon, Little Hare bounded over to Big Hare, his brown fur shining in the sunlight. “Big Hare, how much do you love me?

Big Hare smiled gently, lowering his head to meet Little Hare’s curious gaze. “Why, Little Hare,How Much I Love You more than words can say.

Little Hare twitched his ears, not satisfied. He wanted to understand, to feel the depth of love, so he started to measure it in ways he knew. “I love you as high as I can hop!” he exclaimed, springing into the air with all his might, nearly reaching the tips of the wildflowers.

Big Hare chuckled, his eyes twinkling. “Well, Little Hare, I love you as high as I can hop,” he said, and with a graceful leap, he soared much higher than Little Hare, almost touching the lowest branch of a nearby oak tree.

Little Hare looked in awe. He thought hard, then stretched his little arms wide. “I love you as much as this,” he said, his arms spread far apart.

Big Hare smiled again. “And I love you this much,” he said, stretching his much longer arms far beyond Little Hare’s reach.

Little Hare, determined not to be outdone, looked around for inspiration. The sun was setting, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple. “I love you all the way to the sky!” he said, pointing toward the horizon where the sun was sinking low.

Big Hare looked at the setting sun and then at the twinkling stars just beginning to appear. He knelt beside Little Hare and whispered, “And I love you all the way to the moon and back.

Little Hare’s eyes grew wide with wonder. The moon seemed so far away, and the idea of traveling to it and back filled his heart with joy. “The moon and back?” he repeated softly, feeling the warmth of Big Hare’s love surrounding him.

That night, as the stars glittered above, Little Hare nestled close to Big Hare. He finally understood that love wasn’t something you could measure by how high you could hop or how wide you could stretch your arms. It was something bigger, something that could reach the moon and beyond.

And as he drifted off to sleep, he whispered, “I love you to the moon and back, too.

Follow-up questions:

  2. How did the setting, like the sunset and stars, help show the depth of their love?
  3. Can you think of other ways to show love besides words, just like Little Hare and Big Hare did?
